Im not very knowledgable in the stereo department so i figured i would ask. Im upgrading the head-unit and speakers, going with some door-panel mounted tweeters and rear lucids speakers also So my question is, will the dash controls to the left of the steering wheel (volume, channel, etc etc) work with an aftermarket stereo headunit

They can. What HU are you getting? A solution is likely available for virtually any HU, but some are easier than others. Both Lucid and DJ Qube have solutions. Check out the audio FAQ stickied at the top of this forum for more info.

They won't work but I am sure someone has already came up with a kit to "make" them work....

Yes, it's called a DCI....you can see it on Modifry's (the guy who makes it) website and he sells them through Lucid. I have one for my Eclipse stereo and it works, but Alpine seems to be the best for compatiblity. And since Modifry just got an Alpine, I'm sure there may be more options in the future...here's the website...

pac units are crap. The delay is too long, and gets really annoying.

Before the dope DCI came out, there was a unit called PAC-SWIC. It was a unit that worked on all cars, and it learns the commands on the HU remote (hu had to have a remote) You would actually have to sit there and face the remotes together and program button by button. Also, when you lets say switch to the next track, it takes like 4 seconds to actually do it. It has a really slow response, and is a pain in the a$$. Get a DCI, we all have it, and its fantastic. Cake to install to.
