Default question about my setup with an alpine headunit

As of right now I am using the factory deck and have a remote gain which controls the gain on my sub. I am looking to get the Alpine 9851 headunit but just noticed it does not have a subwoofer output. Does this mean i will not be able to control the sub through the headunit? I am trying to eliminate using my remote gain so it can be used in my wifes car.

My current setup is the factory deck, diamond audio hex 6.5 components, diamond audio cm3 10" sub, and kicker kx650.4 amp

The Alpine 9851 has a set of 2v sub pre-out's. And can control the level and the phase of the sub. Why did you think it didn't?

Forgive me of my ignorance, im just not real familiar with this yet. According to the ultimate electronics website the 9851 does not have a sub output. So i thought that is what would I would need to control the sub. Thanks for your help

The best thing I've found it to go directly to the manufactures website. Most of them have the info,... Check out Alpine's website here You'll find all the specs on that HU. Its a nice one.

The 9851 has a sub output (as well as a front and rear channel outputs). I have one installed in my S, and I did the install myself, so I personally know its there. I dont think it has a phase control for the sub....just a gain control. I think the phase for the sub is included in teh 9855. I could be wrong on that, though.

I like the 9851. Provides gain control from the HU, and also allows you to center the Q on the bass frequency. I think the 9855 lets you center the Q as well as set the Q length (amp a certain frequency even more). I have mine set to +5 over 80HTZ. I also have the BBE set to 1. I know the BBE is an electronic boost, and most people dont like it, but I found that it puts more mid-range to the drivers, on top of boosting the sub. Much fuller sound. I just set the tweeter x-over to 0 instead of -3, and it sounds great.

just as a point of note --

i'd always seek out manufacturer websites over stores for data. the only 'store' site i would trust would be Crutchfield. while they aren't the cheapest, their website is usually dead on for info and their guides are quite useful for basic and some advanced information.

many a time, when even manufacturers didn't have the info i wanted online, i was able to find it at Crutchfield and verify it later w/ the manuf.

Bass Band Width Adjustment (Q) : 4 choices (1=Wide, 4= Narrow)
Bass Center Frequency (Selectable) : 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz
Interesting.....All I have found is the Bass Center Frequency adjustment. There is a gain associated with that (+10 / -10), but I thought that elevated the entire bass field. The owner's manual is complete crap. Doesnt tell you any of this stuff, or even how to tune it.

I guess I will call Alpine on monday and find the Q control. I have been trying to unload some of the deeper bass onto the sub, and off the mids (crappy x-overs). I think the Q would do this, as I could spike it at the same point as the x-over on the amp. If anyone knows how to access this Q control, let me know. There is a "Bass" sub-menu in the Menu option, but I think that is just the centering, and the +/- mirrors the overall "bass" gain on the regular menu. So I dont think that is the Q control, as the whole bass field reacts to its changes.

I think you find this buried in the center set-up menu, and not by pressing the volume knob to get to the basic menu or the set-up menu.

Alpine manual

Is page 13 in the manual any help?
