Just to add to what Modifry is saying, a 10 dB increase is very large...it represents a 10x increase in power.

That's not correct. Decibels don't increase at a linear rate. The volume doubles every 3 dbs (9 db is twice as loud as 6 dbs).

Your are correct 3 dB is a doubling of power. But who said anything about it being linear?

example

0 dbm = 1mW
a 3 db gain = 3mW
another 3 db gain = 6mW
another 3 db gain = 9mW

Same example
0 dbm = 1mw
a 10 db gain = 10mW.

It is not linear, but a 10 dB gain IS equal to 10x power increase.
