Thumbs down Question about what Amplifier to get

Hey there guys, my buddy works at Best Buy and can get me deals on car audio. I've got a Kenwood BT-838U Head Unit (22W X 4ch) installed and I'm going to throw in these:

Alpine Type-R SPR-17S

What kind of amplifier should I get? I'll need it to power the Alpine's, plus the headrest speakers, and maybe a future subwoofer. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Does his store carry the alpine PDX amps? I like the PDX4.100, it is small and fits under the drivers seat. Can power those perfectly and have two extra channels to power rear speakers OR bridge for a lower powered subwoofer. They are class D amps however and some (myself included) believe that they do not produce the best sound quality due to the switching mechanism. (more info on amps here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_amplifier)

All he's got is:

Alpine Mono Amplifier (MRP-M500)
Alpine 4-Channel Amplifier (MRP-F600)
Alpine 4-Channel Amplifier (MRP-F300)
Alpine Mono Amplifier (MRP-M1000)

And one or two Rockford Fosgates, which I don't know the specifications of. I'm really concern as to what to get...I just want to power this setup and have a little but more space if I add a subwoofer later. Also, I'm worried about 'blowing' stuff...whether it be the speakers or the amp.

Ahh, He can order them through customer fulfillment though. The PDX amps that is. and some items from best buy.com. at least I know I can for some items on best buys website.

BUT the rockford 400-4 (my store carries it) is another decent amp to power 4 speakers or components and sub. It is a little on the larger side though.

here are some that he can most likely get, and in the order I would get them. This is my personal preference though, and I may prefer the rockford over the alpine depending on the rockford's price

I'll honestly never run Alpine in any vehicle again. I'm not fond of any of their crap. Most of what they produce is designed to sell to kids that really don't know any better about sound quality and just want lots of power in a small footprint.

Go get yourself better door speakers (Hertz, Focal, CDT, DLS, Rainbow, Seas, Morel, etc) and a high quality 4-chan Class A/B amp made in Europe, not Asia - i.e. Genesis, Sinfoni, Audison, etc. Put in a Pioneer Premier D880-PRS or Eclipse CD7200mkII HU, run an active x-over setup and you won't need to put the money and time into rear speakers.

Run a second, dedicated mono-block Class D amplifier for your subwoofer. Pick up a sub with the XBL^2 technology for much improved sound quality - Stereo Integrity or Exodus. Have a box custom built to fit the subwoofer (12", not 10")

But, hey...that's only if you're serious about improving the sound quality.

Well one of my issues is that most of the amplifiers power '4 speakers or components'. Don't AP2's have 8 speakers?

No. They have 4. People add speakers to the rear area. I actually recommend against this. I'd rather spend that money on improving the quality of your amplifier or door speakers and you won't miss the rear fill everyone says they love...

Here's the way it works:

In your component set are 4 speakers: 2 woofers, 2 tweeters. Each door receives 1 woofer and 1 tweeter. You have a left door and a right door - that makes for 2 channels (left and right) required for your amplifier. Some people go with a 4 channel amplifier, and run 2 channels to each door - left tweeter/left woofer and right tweeter/right woofer - but that's a little more difficult to setup (and requires expensive HUs) and I wouldn't recommend going that way as of yet.

Well I've got an AP2 that came with headrest speakers. How would I go about wiring the entire car?

BTW Neutered Sputniks,

I'm really interested in those Morel Tempo 6's. How would they compare to the Alpine Type R's? I listen to hip-hop and R&B a lot and I really like a clear sound with great treble and deep bass. Mind enlightening me a bit?
