Default Question for AEM ECU greddy logger connection

Hello,

I am about to install a comptech SC with AEM 1052U ecu. I have a greddy informeter to get some info like water temperature etc. This data logger is connected to the OBDII port of the car. My tuner told me that with AEM ecu you diactivate the OBDII port of the car. He told me that i can use AEM gauge which connects to the AEM serial connection. Is there any way i can still use the data informeter to get readings?

I asked him if i can use OBDII to serial connection in order to connect it with AEM ecu but he told me that is different protocols. Has anybody came across this problem?

Thanks
Chris

The AEM ECU is a data logger too. but your tuner is correct. AM EMS has no ODBII support, so unless your infometer support the AEM serial protocol, you are SOL.

You can use a Laptop to get readings. You cna build a dash in the AEM software that will display as you design it.

I really don't think it support it. If it is not listed in the documentation, it is not supported. I know of very few things that support the AEM serial protocol. There is a display panel (custom made to order), the AEM serial gauge and the DL-1 EUC cable. But that is it.

I have an AEM EMS and I use the DL1 ECU cable and their Dash2 display. It is a $2000 solution, but for me, I already had most of it. I only needed the ECU cable and that was 150. So price was not a big deal.

Stratocaster,

I just picked up the exact same set up. Can you give me any ideas or suggestions? There isn't a whole lot of people that are using the interface for both the DL1 & Dash2.

Is the interface precise or do all of the sensors still need to be scaled. What are the Analogue sensors? I'm a little confused with that part since they are not specifically labeled.

What are the other sensors that need to be tapped from the loom (fuel)?

Thanks

-Rob

Really? It is just me and you?

Well, mine is still in the install stage. I had a firmware issue and I had to replace my Dash2 (serviced) So my install was put off until this year. I wanted to toss the OEM cluster, but it looks like I need to keep it for the ABS, EPS lights. Also the windshield wipers are run through the cluster.

Rylan has the ECU interface and AEM I thought? But he has the Dash1, I think.

Well, I will try to explain, the ECU harness will stop me from needed to make several connections to the Dash2 because I can get the data to the Dash2 via te ECU cable.

I will get the following from the ECU harness and not have to connect the Dash2 connection:
  • RPM
  • TPS
  • Coolant Temp
  • A/R (O2)

I have a DL1, so I will get the following on the Dash2 and not have to connect the Dash2 connections:
  • Speed

So I really just need to make connections for the following:
  • 12+
  • Ground
  • Switch common
  • Switch 1-4

So if I want to remove the OEM dash, I will need to make the warning light connnections. But my car is fully stripped and not street legal, so I have not desided what I will do.

On the Fuel, if you want the Dash2 as a replacement, you will have to cut the harness and change the want the sensor works. I have details in my e-mail I can forward you if you would like.

So tell me what are your plans for the Dash2? Full replacement or as an addition?

This is awesome! I knew it was not gonna be a piece of cake but it is what it is. I know Ry is using the Dash2 now as well and I think Blacky was too but he's moved on to an RX7..

I plan on completely removing the original dash and using only the Dash2. My plan was to go through the dash wiring harness and transfer all of the waring lights to and Dash2 control buttons to the remote radio controls. Sounds like its just EPS and ABS that need to be relocated right?
I was also gonna go through the dash to connect all the other accessories like speed (for odometer but will use GPS normally).

Is there a way to reroute or continue the loop for the wipers if the dash has been removed?

The car is also fully stripped...but needs to remain streetable for the next year or so since I do not have room to store a trailer.

I don't think it will be a problem to tap into the turn signals / hazards or any of the other simple warning lights (brake, high beams, dimmer / sidelight).

Really what I was concerned with is the fuel. That really sounds like a PITA.

rob.ok.rad@gmail.com is my email address. If you could send me tose details I'd really appreciate it.

Stock warning lights and buttons will soon be located here...

The wiper control is in the OEM cluster. So it is on or off with just the switch installed. And I mean off NOW when you turn it off, not off when it is at the bottom. so it works without the OEM Dash, iut just works odd.

My plan was to use the Dash2 lights for the EPS and ABS. I though the Brake warning and Fog light looked to be good for this.

I am interested in seening how you wount the Dash2. I have been toying with a Steering wheel mount (think F1) but I would perfer a fixed dash mount.
