Default Question for the EJs

Please excuse my ignorance.

I have done a bunch of research on upgrading my speakers and have found this combo, but I wanted to make sure the amp is appropriate for these speakers:

I have an Alpine head unit, FYI.

1) Speakers: Focal 165 A1's
I have read the S2k requires a little re-working to make it fit but I'm not worried about that.

2) Amp: MB Quart Reference 2 Channel 50 Watt Amplifier (RAB 250)
* RMS Power Range : 50-90 Watts
* Number Of Channels: 2
* Built In Crossovers: Yes
* Channel Separation: Yes
* RMS Power Range @ 4 ohm: 2x50
* RMS Power Range @ 2 ohm: 2x90
* Space-saving focused mass aluminium heat sink
* Micro Class A/B amplifier topology with PWM power supply and high speed MOSFET output devices for excellent sound performance
* Highly flexible adjustable crossover network
* Vario bass equalizer circuit of up to 12 dB with model
* 24 dB Subsonic-Filter

I have no idea what any of that means, but it's really small (my biggest reason for liking it) and cheap (my 2nd biggest reason for liking it).

I've read a lot of negative reviews about Alpine amps, but they seem to be this amp's biggest competitor.
I don't plan on running a sub off my amp, in case that matters.

Anyway, I wanted to ask the experts before I bought either of the components.

Thanks for your time and advice.

so you're planning on bridging the amp so it'll output 90w to each speaker? seems kind of underpowered...

Okay, what is the trade-off if the speaker is underpowered?

The specs on the speakers says, "120 Watts Max Power Handling
60 Watts Nominal Power Handling" and the 90 Watts this amp would send is exactly between the two.

Again...I'm totally new to this.

Oh I didn't realize the ratings for the speakers was so low, and I mis-read the amp specs, i thought that meant bridging and its actually just showing you the power at a lower impedance...

so with that said...

I looked up the speakers and they have a 4-ohm impedance, so they'll be getting 50w each, compared to 60w each side for the RMS, so i think it'll be fine...

Wow -- thank you so much!

The PVI 216s look amazing.
I'll see if I can find a place to listen to them.

And thanks on the amp as well.
It's a bit more than I had hoped to spend...is the extra 20 Watts per channel worth the extra cash?

I'm not trying to be cheap...I just don't have a lot of money.

Not to be difficult, but I'm not exactly sure.

But the Arc Audio amp you suggested costs around $300 and the MB Quart I found is available for $120. Granted, the Arc Audio is smaller and more powerful (and has solid reviews) but if I can save $180...I'd much rather do so.

Plus, can't I swap out the cheaper amp at a later date for the more expensive, more powerful one?

Again, I'm not trying to be difficult and I really appreciate your help.
