Default Question to people with a JL Audio Stealth Box

I purchased this box for my car and I am happy with it.
I wanted to know how many of you actually bolted this down? It comes with instruction on how to bolt it down to the underside of the trunk. Does anyone think this is needed? The sub doesnt look like its going anywhere...

I'm also interested in hearing the reasons (if any) why its necessary.

I've already had one flat tire on the interstate. Darn tire got so hot before I could get past the construction and pull over that, if I had to put it on the passenger seat instead of the trunk, well I don't know what I would have done.

The trunk well is the only place for a big ol' flat that doesn't put your leather seats a risk.

My install of the stealth is next week. I'm not planning on bolting it down unless there is a reaaaally good reason you all fell for doing this.

I ignored that part of the instructions.

My installer followed the instructions nd it is bolted down. I assume the reason you bolt it down is to keep the enclosure from bouncing around when driving and to keep it staionary when you are playing the thumping bass.

I guess im a little hesitent about drilling holes in the car when there may be no reason to.

i guess in a roll-over situation you don't want to have it bouncing around

but i think you'd be worried about other things in that situation. instead of bolting it down, is there a way to just tie it down with cords?

I've got mine on an Eclipse amp and bridged 2 channels so the sub is getting 170W RMS (not peak) @ 4ohms

I asked my installer not to bolt it down. Haven't heard any buzzing yet. The enclosure fit is tight in the well

Sound is really nice for my purposes which were to fill-in the bottom end on the music. It won't set off car alarms or jar the fillings out of your teeth. If that is what you are looking for you might want something bigger than a 10".

If I had it to do all over again, I do the same thing and get the stealthbox.

I gues they just have generic instructions...bolting your sub much lower on your list of concerns in an S2000 accident than if you had, say, a standard cab pickup.

The reason you want to bolt it down is to more solidly couple the sub enclosure to the chassis of the vehicle. The result will be tighter and more accurate bass
