Default Question Regarding Alpine Head Unit.

Ok, so I Installed my Alpine 7893 Head Unit, and have never been able to figure out what the Frequency and Bandwith are.

For example, when setting the Bass, there is a setting for frequency and bandwith of the Bass. The Bandwith goes from 1 to 4, and the Frequency goes from 70 to 130. What does that imply, soundwise?

As for the treble, there is a frequency that you can set between 10.0 and 17.5. Which setting will give me the best sound?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

I believe:
frequency = bass/treble center.
bandwidth = slope for parametric EQ.

It depends on what you are listening to. I would try leaving them at default/off to see how that is...

bandwith is the Q. to shorten it up, it is width of the freq range it will have an effect on.

a Q of 1 is pretty wide. what that means is, if u choose a freq of 70hz with a gain +3db, it will affect all the freq +/- 3 bands over. imagine the shape of a round igloo with 70hz at the peak, and at the bottom of the peak on the left side, it is 50hz and the right side is 100hz. basically you are boosting all the freq within that range. because it is a dome, the effect of the boost will boost will be... say... +1db @ 50hz, +2db @ 63hz, +3db @ 70hz, +2db @ 80hz +1db @ 90hz.

a Q of 4 will give u a very narrow width. imagine a conehead. if you choose 70hz with a boost of 4db and at a Q of 4, you will only affect one band on each side of 70hz.

i think everyone knows what frequency is. understanding what each freq is, is something not everyone knows. 70hz is usually considered midbass/subbass. 80hz is usually midbass. 90hz is midbass, 100hz is midbass, 125hz is midbass/low midrange. so depending on what you need or what you are looking to boost is the question before you choose a freq to boost.

it is hard to explain 10khz- 17.5khz. i have to think about this one before i can get back to you. just know that some people cannot hear 17.5khz.

Hmmm, I have the 7894, basically same head unit, except for different color, and plays MP3's. I have the same kind of settings as well..

Anyone know a "Universal" setting for the frequency and bandwidth?
