I need some help and advice on purchasing my new audio system. I'm have a Diamond Audio D5600.2 for the door speakers, 401XLN interconnects, amp rack/cover, and dynamatting/dynaxsorb already purchased. I'm buying an Alpine 9851 which (with an adapter) is suppose (website claims OEM) to handle the dash controls.

My questions: 1) I'm looking at Perfects vs. MB PCE216's or Diamond Audio S600a's to save $50 - $125. Are the MB's or DA's worth the extra money? Would the 150x2 @ 4ohms be too much for the Perfects? Also, they're all deeper than 2", so if I use an adapter, can i extend it enough forward -towards the door so I won't have to cut the basket? If I decide to cut the basket, will I need to still buy an adapter or will they align up?
2) JL Audio 4ga, Monster 4ga, or ? for the amp install kit?
3) Speaker wire? Twisted? Anybody use Knu-Concept (sp) twisted 16ga wire? How many feet do I need to buy? 30ft?
4) Anybody hooked up a 9851 yet and got the dash controls to work?

Also, I'm considering cutting for the tweeter in front of the door latch versus cutting and purchasing '02 tweeter mounts.

I appreciate your help...been scratching my head too long on the speakers, time to buy.

Word.....I dont like lower line MB Quarts. The QSDs are great, but are $500 bucks. The Perfects are a good amount better IMHO than the other two you mentioned. I dont like the Diamonds as well, because its like they have a built in Hip-Hop EQ. They just sound like they should be in an escalade playing 50 CENT.

Of the ones you picked, get the perfects.

You wont have to do anything except cut the base of the baskets. They are crappy pieces of plastic, so its not like you are "cutting up the car"

Wiring, get it all from KNUKONCEPTZ. Just get the best of every kind of wire (speaker and RCA) youll be sorry if you dont. Power get a 4 gauge main, then split into 8AWG for the amps.

DCI for alpines is also very easy to install, as long as you are not colorblind.

Perfects can be had for like 200 bucks or so.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to go with the Perfects. Picked up the 9851 today (amazing that it was on sale the first week on the shelf $234.95). Amp was waiting on the doorstep for me today, but not in quite the mint/new condition advertised in the auction (sux). Going to have it bench tested tomorrow. Only thing I bot used, maybe not such a smart move when you can get such good pricing on new amps online just a few dollars more. Just waiting on the amp kit and speaker wire and then i'm ready to start the install (and then the head scratching will probably come back).

Has anybody installed a 9851 yet? Need to know what type of DCI to buy.
I imagine I can install it and do the DCI later once everyone/someone is more familar with the new model alpines that claim OEM.

I had gotten the Diamond Audio D5 600.2 amp. It's at the audio store right now being tested. Hope it's okay. I'll post a review when it's all together.

One other question. With the 9851 being OEM for the Steering Controls, do I still need to buy the Modifry? The guy where I bot it stated he could get the DCI for me for around $60 which would plug in, not IR.

Doesn't Modifry's use IR which causes a delay? or does he also have one that is hardwired?

One last question (you'll probably hear that a lot), should I purchase the XTC speaker baffles for the Perfects? The doors will be dynamatted and I've got dynaxsorb for behing the speaker. If I did, it looks like the slim is only 2 3/8's deep and the next deeper is 3 1/4, is that too deep for the window to close?

 

Modfry' dci has no delay.

I have used both the Alpine and Pioneer model and both DCI work instantly. Absolutely no delay.

You still need the DCI for the Alpine.

You dont need baffles. I have Utopia's in mine and I am not using baffles. Save your money for something else. Baffles are not neccesary.
