Red face radio door mod, fit your radio without cutting

as we know most after market radios for the S interfere with the door that hides the radio, mine was no exception. instead of hacking up the radio door to make it close I did a little magnet mod took a little trip to walmart, got a pack of magnets and super glue from the arts and crafts section, and just glued them to the door. this holds the door shut and spaces it out enough to not interfere with my radio.

I used the factory latch as a reference point to line up the two magnets. the only weird thing with the magnets I used is that they were polarized top and bottom, not front and back. so I glued one in place, then checked to see how to line up the second one so they would be in the right polarity and hold together.

lastly there's a spring that assists the door in opening. that spring had enough force to keep the magnets I got from holding the door closed. so I took the tension off of that spring so it doesn't fight the magnets anymore and it's perfect. here's the results...

Most aftermarket din sized radios fit just fine with no modifications. You just have to get it in deeper.

that's what she said

that radio is in all the way, physically can't go in any further with the wiring and junk. I used the factory tabs that held the stock radio in place when mounting it, works perfect, it's just that the radio face sticks out of the unit so far.

it must be hitting at the top or something b/c the bottom looks like you have half an inch of clearance lol.

at any rate, looks decent. if it works then good for you.

yeah there's plenty of room at the bottom but the door sits at an angle. with my radio the door will hit the top of the faceplate before it can latch and hold shut. if I detach the faceplate it'll close but taking the radio apart kinda defeats the purpose of being able to hide it with the door so it seemed kinda dumb to me to do that. plus it's a hassle to keep doing that and then putting the faceplate away somewhere.

that's cool, with the wiring it barely fit with the brackets the way they were so I didn't think I could get it mounted that deep.

Of course you can. If the radio is truly din sized, it should fit. Like they said, though, some minor modification required.
