I remove the center console completely when I'm doing radio work on an AP2 for two reasons.

1 - It makes it a CRAP load easier to get the door off. I got it off once while the console was still in place, but i think i was at the fracture limit of plastic bending when I did it.

2 - It makes it look like I know what I'm doing. The more pieces you take off and put back on makes your wife think you are VERY focused, and should not be disturbed to take out the trash.

It also makes customers leave you alone

(not that I do installs for a living, just to help people out)

does a single din radio fit in the stock slot in an ap2? or does it need a kit?

no kit, except for wiring harness, but buy Modifry's harness when you get the DCI.

ya the DCI is the one i want... i get rather confused with this... i'm new to that part of car audio.... (the steeringwheel control re-use)

i'm still trying to decide upon a HU to use... that works with the DCI (that needs a 3.5" input for a wired remote right?)

Ask here, or check the specs/manual for the head unit. You want one with a 3.5mm jack, the Alpine CDA-9857 has it, the 9856 does not, for other brands just ask about a specific model, or to get the answer quicker, check the manufacturers web site for the manual or specs and it should be listed.
