Default Rear Speaker Info and Reward!

Alright, b4 I go and get to moding the crap out of my sh1tty stock stereo I have a couple of quick preguntas.

I'm a tall guy, can you still push the seats all the way back if you have speakers installed behind them?

Do they sound like crap if you smother them with your seat?

Where are you putting the amp you're running these speakers off of? In the trunk? Behind the passanger? I don't think it would cool properly under one of the seats.

How much should I expect some custom dude to charge me to cut a couple of freaking holes in my 2000?

I've got lots more questions but I'll keep it down to just q's on the rear speakers.

OK the reward is if someone can give me some good answers on all these questions, I'll post a pic from my girlie friend's last photo shoot. Its a good one, promise.

Thanks

See post "sound system solution" You will lose about 1" recline if you leave the grill on the speaker. + No cutting!

Go with Lucid's setup....he can provide you not only with rear panels with speakers already in them, but he also has a wiring harness to bring out the rear outputs from the stock head. For those who don't want to spend a lot of money, this solution is ideal. I get the impression you'll be spending quite a bit on your system as a whole, so get his rear panels, skip the wiring harness, and replace the stock head along with the door speakers. For install tips and instructions, see my webpage.

I would go with Lucid's little setup but I have some 6x9s I'm dying to put in. Are they gonna be too big? Too fat?

From the research I've done, I would say 6x9 is way out of the question. I think 4" fits perfect, 5 1/4" maybe, and 6 1/2" with cutting.

No.

Yes.

Yes, or in the area to the left of the spare tire, or where the spare is.
Behind the passanger?
No.

Correct, unless it was very small.

Don't do it! A properly amplified set of good front speakers will eliminate any need for rear speakers in the S2000. If your system was running off the head unit's power, that would be another story. If you do decide to get rear speakers, try Lucid's rear panels - he's already done the hard part.

In any case decent 6x9's won't fit in the rear panel without hacking up some serious metal. You could hack up the well the top folds into and put them there, but then they'd be muffled when the top was down.

Hope this helps...

Jason

I actually removed the panels this weekend to check it out and there is MINIMAL room in there for the magnet. About 2 1/2 - 3 " max.

One option that may work is a 4 x 10". The magnets on those are usually not too large, and the long slim fit may just work out. But 6 x 9" is not an option I'm afraid without some major cutting of sheetmetal.

Just a tip: if you are considering rear speakers and have not put a Rick's console cover on, do the rear wires BEFORE you put the console cover on and save yourself some cursing.

I have personally heard Lucids stereo mods and they are fantastic. I have seen some members hook up an amp in the rear, in the spare tire compartment. I honestly would not do any major cutting. Stick with the stock sizes that lucid uses. Trust me, they work well!

P.S. Please post those pics

I don't have my seats all the way back, but not because they smother the sound but because the speakers rub on the back of the seat and make a squeaky noise. It would also probably rub a hole in the back of the seat.

I do not have an amp, I am just running two 4 1/2's behind the seats, tweeters in the A pillars, and replacement speakers in the doors, all from the stock head unit and it is so much better that I wish I had not waited so long. I bought a component set of Polk's as well as Polk door speakers when Circuit City had a special buy one get the next half off sale and they may still be running it.
