Default Rear USB port

Sorry, this might be a dumb quesiton, but...

Ive noticed a lot of HU's lately that say rear USB port. Ive seen a few that have usb ports on the front and you can just plug in a removable drive, but how do you use a rear port? Does the face flip exposing the usb port...and you plug in then? Or is there a cord that goes from the rear port then into your cabin somewhere?

Thanks

There is definately a cord that is provided since the USB is in the rear. I know b/c of the 20 or so HU's I was looking into, all of them were the same design.

The Alpine iDA-X001 has a rear port, and it has a USB adapter cable that plugs into the back that you can run similar to the iPod cable. Just plug-n-play.

the NX-5000 has a built-in HD, right? Why would you need a flash drive with that?
