Default Recommendations on 8" sub

I'm interested in getting WLaurent sub enclosure and need a 8" sub. I have a JL 500/5 with a sub channel of 250 watts. So I need a 8" sub capable of handling 250. I have Focal Utopia's up front, Boston Acoustics RX45 behind the seat. Sound clarity is what I'm looking for with 250 watts power rating. I want clear punchy bass. I looked at JL 8W3, however, it's only rated at 125 watts.

Thanks for advice in advance.

whats up dude,

I was very interested in these sub enclosures too. Check out the Rockford fosgate hx2
going soooo cheap...60 bucks each! There are also HE2 for 60. I recomend HX2 for better bass quality. You have to go to the blowout section at the bottemof the page then click it will take you to another page scroll down to find the Rockford Hx2.

have fun!

The sub that comes to my mind is the JL audio 8W6. You may have to search for one but those damn things ROCKED, and needed VERY little air space. SOmething like .35-.45 cubic feet IIRC. If I had to use an 8 I would search for one of those.

I was thinking of a Cerwin-Vega IT-8.0 . It is a bit more efficient (89dB) than some of the other 8" subs and it will work in a .4 cu. ft. enclosure. It is more expensive than the RF subs though.

How much volume does that enclosure have? You need to know that before you can buy a sub for it.

I have a JL Audio Microsub, which is a TINY tuned box by JL. Sounds great to me.

My recommendation would be a Rockford HX2(RFD2208 - 400Wrms/800Wpeak) or the HE2(RFP3208 - 250Wrms/500Wpeak). I am now running a single HX2 in my S2K and get really good bass levels (almost as good as a pair).

Hamada found some older model HX2's - RFD1208 for ~60$US - not sure if these are new, refurbished or what? Also - it appears the site has some issues with Rockford right now (check the web site).

JL's 8W3 is rated at 125RMS - however I ran a 8W3 for a while (about 6 months in my Integra) at around 250W and had no problems.

JL actually states that the 8W3 is in the RED zone at 250W - follow this link JL Audio Power Levels

Of course you do not want to eat a $130+ sub either
