Default Reducing road noise

I was thinking about lining the bottom of the car (under the carpet of the cabin) with dynamat to reduce road noise and have a quieter interior for the audio. any thoughts or suggestions?

It would add a lot of weight and be really expensive.

I'd say try quietcar from http://www.quietcoat.com/

A few people on the forum have used it with what sounds to be pretty good results. The rubbery paint like coating would be easier to apply under the carpet then Dynamat because you could cover more. I think you need to do like 3 coats though. You can also do the trunk and area under the softtop.

Yeah your in a convertible road noise is all around you... unless of course you have a hardtop...

J/K

Anyway it will help to cut down the under car noise. There are many different types of sound deadener. I like Dynamat but it is expensive and other very similar products cost less and do just as good a job as Dynamat. The spray style type is nice but like it was mentioned you'll need to spray a lot to get the same effect you would from a pad stick on style setup.

Appreciate the suggestions guys. You are right (darkknight), it is a convertable so it'll never be noiseless.

PS. Love your selling strategy with the snowboard.

I recently bought a bunch of the light-weight vinyl stuff to try the same thing. It's supposed to be better than the asphalt-based sheets and 1/3 the weight.

Of course I'm so anal I won't put it in unless I can measure the difference in noise before and after so I know if it really worked, and how well. So it's been sitting in the garage for 4 months waiting for me to run layout out a driving course and record some baseline dB plots. The next few months are going to be pretty busy so it will probably be late summer before I get it done. I'll report the results once I have them.

Do let us know what you find out, modifry. I for one will be interested.

Right now I'm in the middle of a dynamat project for the trunk. No I didn't measure decibels beforehand so I won't know if the deadener (actually a knockoff sold by Parts Express called VE-1 - part numbers 268-030 and 268-035) lowers the noise floor.

I'm not even trying to quiet the car down although that would be a nice side benefit. I just want to dampen excess vibration. I'm looking ahead to a subwoofer install and would like to keep rattles to a minimum.
