Remote Start?

Yes it can be done. It is illegal to do with any other system except the Compustar. The Compustar basically uses almost like a turbo timer feature. The car stays running as you get out and shuts offs when you close the door.
You dont need to leave the key in the bypass. There is an 555H that is programable.

If there really is a law, it probably also says you can't put remote start in a convertible.
Also, the 555H doesn't work on the S2000 - at least it didn't a few years ago.
Not sure what ford and GM use now, I havent seen the factory remote start on there manual vehicles yet.
Why not a convertable? It would work the same way and its just as unlikely that someone would lean in and put the car into gear as if a vehicles windows left down in a regular car.
You may be right about the 555H. If you used a 556U, you could cut the key off or just use one thats not cut, but programmed.

I found the compustar that works for manual transmission cars.
could someone explain what is entailed with installation.
as for the GM and Ford thing...are you sure you arent thinking of OnStar?

Every remote start I've installed (DEI) killed the car if the brake was pressed without the key in the ignition and turned to on.
This one probably does the same thing. So starting it with the top down wouldn't be a problem. If someone hopped in the alarm would go off and as soon as they touched the brake pedal it would shut the car down.

darkknight1999 , you think this works? http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPUSTAR-2W900FM-S-MA...1QQcmdZViewItem
BTW all that "FREE" stuff... comes in the box anyway
And as for the tech sheet... those are free on the internet
But that price isn't bad though. Course you won't have a CompuStar warranty with that, unless that seller is a CompuStar dealer... but I doubt it.
Remote start on a Stick is usually a bad idea. My friends Civic just got total by a valet guy. Car was left in gear and autostart was accidently press, and ram into a Toyota Truck. (It kept raming it, over and over, and over--at least 5 times)
But the Compustar Remote Starter sounds good!!

I never thought the car could really start while in gear. Not meaning that I thought there was an electronic safety, I just never really thought the starter would have enough torque to turn the engine over fast enough to start while in gear and e-braked.
