people who hate Compustar have had crappy service or crappy experiences ALL due to improper installation/programming.
BTW -- I have a CompuStar on my car S2000 and love it. (I do not have the remote start model.)

I have a remote start unit (DEI) on my AUTOMATIC winter car, and love that too.

The people in the links above are not talking about CompuStar or anything other than their car, parked out of gear, rolling away.

Just clarifying for all. No animosity.

bad idea. Had one on my car...took it off after, car reversed through the garage door. Oops. And almost one time down a ditch. Both times, it was not me who turned the car on.

I never park in gear. The ebrake may fail on some cars, but I also know many many S owners who never park in gear. If your on an incline its a given, you should in any car though.

I still say Compustar is perfectly safe, and I agree that it should be done by an authorized dealer.

For the ones who do not know the shut down sequence.

Come to a stop, pull the ebrake while foot on brake. Take key out, car stays running. Open door get out, car still running. If your outside the car and its not rolling away, it must be in neutral. Close door, car shuts off and arms. If anything is triggered in between the door closing and the next time you try to start it, it will not work.

The only way I can think of that this might fail is if you have your top down and someone reaches in and puts it in gear. Well or if you have a dog in the car and he bumps it into gear.

to Compustar.

I have one on my daily driver (was my only car before I picked up my S). Remote pager and autostart. Apart from the pager being scratched and it being an absolute biyatch to install, its a great system. Took my installer about 10 hours and another one of my friends' installers took 2 full work days. I'd like to switch it over to my S but can't afford to since I'm sure it would cost a few hundred $$$.

And don't worry about having a manual. You can't "accidentally" get out of your car, leaving it in gear and running.

It's not about the starter itself, it's about the crappy e-brake we have in the car.

BTW -- it's not limited to the S2000 community. I have seen these reports on the Corvette Boards too.
Whoaaaaaaaaaa i had no idea about this problem and i ALWAYS leave my ebrake up due to the fact that i have a turbo timer and need to leave my engine running after i beat on it.
There goes me upgrading to a remote starter.

Thanks RUEX
