Default Is a remote starter worth it?

I'm getting an aftermarket security system installed on Wednesday and initially had it scheduled to also have a remote starter installed as well but now I'm wondering if there are really any added benefits besides cooling the car in Texas summers. What is everyone's opinion on remote starters on our cars?

I have had them in all of my utility cars/vehicles... not in any of my 'fun' cars....

In my experience when the temps are above 40, we don't use them. with a manual trans car, assuming it's going on the s2000, I wouldn't even consider it.

Thanks for the fast response Ziv! Sorry for my ignorance but what does the temperature have to do with installing a remote start? There are heat issues?

think he means that people who use remote starters are usually do it to warm up their cars during cold winter days before getting in them.

Gotcha. But unfortunately for me, my 'fun' car is my DD.. I rarely put clutch in gear when I leave the car so I don't think I would end up running after my car after remote starting it. But the one benefit (interior car temps) doesn't seem like a big enough reason for me to get the Viper Smart Start module..

getting in and putting the top down if it were hot would seem to be easier than remote starting and letting the car run the AC (if you remembered to even turn it on before getting out)...

I have heard of one too many cases of remote starters on manual transmissions being started with the car in gear. I would not risk it with the S. That's just my opinion.

I had one on my Integra many years ago. I let a friend borrow it and he left it in gear...he then remote started it straight into a Lincoln Towncar.

Wasn't a good day.

If you're dead set on installing a remote start system, you might consider something like Modifry's S2000 remote start interlock.

Bad idea. Bad idea for a manual trans. Bad idea for a special car you want to keep for a long time.

Warming up a car by letting it idle increases wear. The colder the oil, the more wear, until oil reaches operating temp. It'll reach operating temp muuuuch faster driving it.

Most places around here will refuse to install remote start on a stick car.
