Default removing gauge cluster

Do you have to remove the steering wheel in order to remove the gauge cluster? It says so in the Helms but I don't see why. Let me know if anyone has done this. Thanks!

It looks to me like you'll definitely have to at least drop the steering column.

I was trying to take the bezel piece around the gauge cluster and I had to drop the column to even get it to the point where it was remotely able to come out.

I gave up though...it was late at night.

3 screws to remove the lower column cover. 4 12 mm nuts hold the column up. the 2 closest to the firewall can be loosened; dont remove them completely. The 2 closest to the steering wheel need to be removeded completely.

on the underside of the cluster hood, there are 2 pop out caps that hide 2 screws. Unscrew those next. The rest of the dash is held in by little clips, just start poping it out with you fingernails, or a flathead screwdriver (use a cloth or tape to protect from scratching). You can then tug and pull the bezel out, while you unplug the start button, audio controls, cruise switch, defroster switch (if so equipped), and HVAC controls.

Once that whole unit is out, there are 2black screws that hold in the cluster on each side. remove, and pull out the dash. There a 4 plug behind the actual cluster.

There is VERY little slack in the wiring harness. I found it's easiest to have a small screwdriver handy to push the 'lock' of each connector as you pull. Good luck!
