Default Replacing the Remote Lock Horn Honk

I'm gonna toss the hook out on this one to get a feel for what you guys and gals think.

I've been working on a prototype of a small, easily installed unit that's used to replace the honk honk you hear with a double press of the lock button on the fob with a classier electronic beep similar to Acura, BMW, etc... The recommended use for this would be on an S2000 without an aftermarket alarm.

The installation would consist of connecting three wires: constant 12V, ground, and a trigger wire. The trigger wire would be inside the cabin. You would have the option of selecting the duration of the beep (possibly user adjustable) and the frequency (tone of the sound) when you order the unit. The unit would be approximately 3"x2"x1". The cost would be ~$30-$50 (rough estimate at this point.)

I would appreciate your feedback either way on what you think and if this is something you'd install on your S. Thanks!!!

I probably would, but that is only because of lack of $ for a real alarm. The key is the relatively low price. You can hardly buy anything for this car for $50.

I would seriously consider it seeing as it's relatively inexpensive and will get rid of that annoying honk of that little peppy horn...

I wouldn't buy it, but I would spend money to lobby Congress to make your product illegal and to put you in jail for selling it.

Sorry, but it's a pet peave of mine. Unless you are blind, in which case you should not be driving, nobody needs an audible signal that their car is locked. Further, such an audible lock cannot be used without disturbing the peaceful lives of other people (unless you live all by yourself out in the sticks somewhere, in which case you don't need to lock your car.)

I've seen old ladies jump out of their skin being too close to cars whose lazy-ass drivers were walking into a store and felt the need to lock their doors without having to ruin their own whole day by looking back.

I personally was awakened every night at 12:30 am for a year by a stupid, inconsiderate woman who honk-locked her car when she got home from the late shift. She was far too stupid to realize that the lights blinking also signalled her doors were locked. God knows what she thought all her neighbors were doing at that time of the night, all quiet with their lights out and everything. Hmmmm...sleeping maybe?

If you need non-visual feedback that your car is locked, why not a remotely administered electric shock to the driver? That way you could walk away from your car and make YOUR OWN heart stop when you lock your car. Can you figure a way to hook up a taser in your pocket?

Make it sound like a cool Acura or BMW? Why not shut it the heck off?

People, don't be selfish, lazy idiots. Put your keyless on silent and watch the lights flash. And more importantly don't spend money on silly devices that make silent things noisy and in the process piss off other people.

viper, I admire your creativity and resourcefulness, but please put those qualities towards something that doesn't annoy other people.

LATEOTT, I think we're actually on the same page here.

The tone that this device produces is much quieter and far less harsh than a horn honk. The beep would only be audible to people in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle... it's not a siren. You would not be able to hear it from next door through the walls of your house. Nevertheless, I understand where you're coming from. I'll mark you down as a 'hell no'.

On a side note, are you lobbying Congress on loud aftermarket exhausts as well?

It's deifnitely not a fact of me being too lazy to turn around to see if my car is locked. It's just sometimes when I'm in a hurry I second guess if I had locked my car and I press it again just in case and that annoying, loud honk goes off. I rarely double lock my car, producing the honk, but when I do I'd like for it to be quieter and less obtrusive.. Like viper said, it would make it less annoying.

.....sometimes I am running late and am not looking at the car when I press the button (rushing off). Sometimes the button press will not register with the locks (dunno why...), and I need to press it a few times to get it to work.

I would definitely buy one, depending on how it sounds, of course.

This thread might turn commercial in nature quickly, and get shut down...... chose your words carefully .
