Default Roll hoop replacements

I'm talking about the 06/07 roll hoop speakers. I found these and they seem like they'd work well as an upgrade. If they are wired in series to an aftermarket deck, then they should see about 11 WRMS (assuming the standard deck puts out 22WRMS per channel.) But would they fit?

The HD-2 is a unique 2" mid tweeter (more dispersion at the highest frequencies) than most 25mm dome tweeters. A 1kHz (6db) or 500Hz (12 db) crossover is recommended.
They go for $100 a pair..

I've included links to a couple previous threads discussing possible replacements for the rollhoop speakers. Unfortunately, I don't believe anyone has found a successful solution yet.

older, longer thread:

newer, links back to above:

The first issue with the CDTs you mention is the 1.26" mounting depth. Based on this picture of the rollhoop speaker area, there is only about .75" of depth available. I'm thinking that with the outward curving cover piece, a spacer could be added to a slightly deeper speaker that would still work under the factory cover, but i don't think there's a full 1/2 inch to work with...

The outer diameter of 2.65" also looks to be too much width for the space:

But in fairness, after replacing my front speakers with a/d/s components powered by an external amplifier, powering the rollhoop speakers with the rear channels of the Alpine HU, and adjusting the fader to have the rollhoop speakers add just enough fill, I'm not too displeased with them. I am much happier with speakers trying to reproduce some midrange as opposed to component speaker tweeters firing only the upper octaves straight into my ears.

Looks like they would be too deep.

As I mentioned, even though the factory rollhoop speaker may not be the best quality, the fact that it covers some midrange makes it much more tolerable (IMO) than just having a tweeter right next to your ears.

I was/am considering the Tang Bang driver below, which a forum member was going to look into testing out before he ran into some other issues. I may have to give it a try... 4 of them qualifies for the "volume discount" of less than $11 each. They are spec'd to extend down to 400Hz, and hopefully with a small spacer, would have adequate mounting depth.

Im not saying that this is absolute but IMO the rear speakers are mainly for effect. Spend the extra $100 on better door or components and leave the stock rears in place.
Sound improvment will come mainly from the front primarys and any improvement in the rear may go unnoted.
If several people on this forum dissagree, then I might be wrong.
Bottom line- Great attention to the front and only minor (if any) to the rear.

Yeesh, those seem as low quality as the factory ones...I think I'll wait for some feedback on those before I go for it.
