rookie question on camcorders...
I inherited a JVC GR-DVL805 mini DV. Came with one battery and the AC adapter charger. I do plan to use to camera on a speedmount camera mount which I have.
1. Don't supposed anyone here deal with JVC accessories or such? Looking for a few things...not sure where else to look for them in Canada besides eBay.
2. If I were to transfer the movie from the camcorder to my computer, I would need a firewire DV cable made specifically made for the camcorder and a firewire card for my computer, is that correct?
3. What program would I have to buy to be able to transfer stuff form the camcoder to my computer?

Seks
1. I have a JVC Service center here in Houston, I could ship you what ever you wanted. The last time I needed something from JVC I had to order is via 1-800 number and the drop shipped it. You might try https://www.jvc.ca/en/consumer/thestore/
2. your cam has an "i.Link" Digital Input/Output (IEEE 1394 compliant) DV in/out. So Yes, you need a Firewire cable that will connect to the port in your Camera, and connect to your computer. My Sony DV has a standard type of firewire port on it, so any computer store had the cable I needed.
If you don't have a Firewire port on your computer, you will have to buy an add-on card to install in your computer. The last time I looked they were about 59 (US)
3. Mine cam with something, and I have yet to play with it. I think that Windows Media Player (Windows 2000/XP) might transfer the video. But to edit it, you wil need something "real".
Good luck

When you buy a firewire card they usually come with some type of video transfer and edit software. I used ULead Special Edition (came with my Western Digitial branded firewire card) for doing my on-PC video editing for quite some time before upgrading to a pro-sumer software package. It is easy to use and does most everything you could want it to do.
