Ill look into both the R's and the Reference series.

Anyone have a feel for whether an Alpine CDA-9833 will drive a set of 2 ohm speakers if the head unit is only driving one set of them (fronts are amped)?

It looks like the new Reference speakers are 2-ohm not 4, so I would need to look at getting the older ones?

Also, with the Type Rs, they are only Sensitivity: 86 dB, is this not a problem?

86 is a problem. The last time I listened to a set of R's behind a stock HU was a couple years ago. Alpine may have changed them.

Ok, I guess I will aim for the Infinity's then.

The two I am looking at are :
$107 - Infinity Reference 5010cs - 4 Ohms - sensitivity: 91 dB
$152 - INFINITY KAPPA50.5CS - 4 Ohms - Sensitivity: 90dB

I've had positive feedback about both, but it would really be best to hear from someone who owns a pair.

You can't go wrong with either. Don't let anybody get you down the s-pods rock. I have had mine for three or four years and love them. Sure they aren't for critical listening, but I wouldn't do critical listening in a moving car anymore than I'd turn on the vacuum if I was listening at home.

Ok, got it all installed today.

First, installing the S-Pods was amazingly easy.

Second, those speakers are a little bright UNTIL you put he cover on, and then they sound perfect. I highly suggest them.

$100(Crutchfield) - Infinity Reference 5010cs

Third - EVERY S2000 SHOULD HAVE S-PODS. Audio sucks without them, is amazing with them.

The End.

Glad you like them. One of the side benefits I noticed is they seem to have some wind blocking effects so the car is a little quieter even when the radio is off.
