Default s2000: Head Unit August 2014!

Hello! I am new to the forums so this will be my first post!

So I've been an owner of an AP2 2005 s2k for half a year now down in San Diego. However, now the my CD is stuck and wont eject. Whenever I do try to eject the CD it makes this clicking sound.

So, I figured I'd just buy a new head unit. However, I would just like to see what you s2000 owners recommend since technology keeps getting better and I don't want to be out to date. Also, because I am not very familiar with head units.

I did look up certain head units and I found out that I really want is BLUETOOTH, USB, and CD PLAYER. I will be buying that "Modifry CDI" because I do want to use my controls, but I guess I'll pick up the Brand of Head Unit first?

Here are the Head Units I currently like, but don't know if I should get. They are pretty expensive, but they look nice.

Alpine IDA-X305S - However, no CD Player. LOVE the look of the Head Unit Itself + the Display.

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994

As you can see I love the display screens on those head units, but is it worth it to get those screens or are there better head units without those screens?

Like this one is around the same price, but looks outdated.

Pioneer DEHX9600BHS

The top two Alpine and Kenwood look more modern.

http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-CDE-HD1.../dp/B00CKYH9Q2 + it allows you to mess around with timing
Personally I like the old Alpines a lot more (biolite display) but no BT feature or timing unless you buy the accessories CDA-117

http://www.amazon.com/Axxess-ASWC-1-.../dp/B00B4PJC9K got this for the controls

Damn, Nice! I love the looks of that one! It has everything I like even a CD Player.

Awesome! ya see. I couldn't even find something like that. Looks like that ones on the top of the list! I doubt I'll be able to find anything better than this.

Thanks, S2Krazy89!

Hmmm...This universal control works better than the "Modifry DCI"?

Not sure if it's better. I just got it because it is available at most/all audio stores and it does the same thing except the multiple button function (maybe it does? never even tried lol). I don't find myself ever needing those extra functions while driving. If you do decide to get the universal control, wire it neatly and it'll fit right in the slot along with the headunit but have it so you can easily pull the headunit back out if you need to.

I would like to hear about the owners with the alpine unit. I currently have the kenwood kdc-x995 hu and my only complaint would be that the screen is hard to see in the day time. Sun tends to glare off the screen and makes it really difficult to read your screen. Sound quality the USB port and Bluetooth have been great. Also the USB port is located in the back of the unit so that is something else to consider. I also bought the modifry dci and it has been great

Same complaint about the newer Alpine screens. They don't make Alpines like they used to. Everything else works great. USB cord can be routed to the front. Had the new CDE-154BT for a while. Did not like it (seriously) compared to my old CDE-147 that needed to go in for warranty but got discontinued. The store ended up upgrading me to a CDE-149, great so far.

I wouldn't get any of the 2014 models based on the CDE-154. It feels cheap. They took out Time Alignment and replaced it with Bass Engine... There better options out there in that price range.

I have had the alpine ida since I bought my car and must say it's definitely a nice unit with a lot of functionality. It also looks killer at night

I've had the Alpine IDA-X305S for years now

Love it except the screen when top is down is completely useless because of the sun i cannot make anything out.

also you cannot stream bluetooth audio.

otherwise its a good radio i also have the bluetooth module so phone calls are good with it
people can hear me and i can def hear them. Even with the top down
