Good stuff. How did you get the blue wire at the lower left corner of the fuse box in there?

^ Aha! Thinking ahead, aren't we?

I used a long drill bit to drill a hole in the bottom of the fuse box, right in the corner. There's nothing down there, and it comes out where it's easy to get to and route up to the horns. But you need a long drill bit - I just happen to have a 12" long 1/8" drill bit that did the trick.

If you don't have a long drill bit you can get away with a coat hanger. Yup. Since it's plastic, you can take a heavy coat hanger, cut out the straight part, and file the end like an arrow-head (flattened but pointed). It will drill through the plastic without too much trouble.

Why would you replace a relay with a relay?

So the new relay can hold 20amps as you fused it for 20amps. The factory relay is capable of 20amps.

Running 10ga to a terminal in the fuse box that is more than likely to have a 14 to 18ga wire at the other end is pointless.

I have never found that the hella or wolo air horns to be that impressive .If they used a tank to store the air at a set psi they would work much better. But because the horns run right off the compressor it take time for it to build psi and the only thing that regulates it is the 1/4in id hose.

I installed 3pr of Piaa horns this week for customers and they loved them .The hella super tone horns a impressive to. Neither of these horns should need wiring upgrades.

Those are the horns I was talking about.

You could do better in price though. I retail them out my store for $39.95

Best price I found on the net

How do the S2k horns sound anyway? I have an Integra with a stock horn and it sounds like the road runner. If you kept the S2k horn and it sounds like a normal horn(not high pitched like the integras) I would be interested in taking it off of your hands.

My first impulse is to say "Because I know what I'm doing and you don't" but that would be rude. So I'm going to be nice instead, since by your remarks you have no clue what I did.

The point of replacing the factory relay with a different relay is not because of the relay, it's to get a different power source for the horns. The relay is not limiting the current to the after-market horn, the factory wiring and fuse is.

The factory horns are powered from a 10-Amp fuse that also powers the brake lights. The wiring for that circuit is sized for no more than 10 amps (obviously) so just plopping in a 20-amp fuse is not a real good idea. I think you understand that by your reference to the "14 to 18ga wire at the other end is pointless" comment.

But you misunderstood the 10 gauge wire connection with the 20 amp fuse. It is not leading to a small gauge wire, it is a direct power tap from the battery. By using this alternate power source in the fuse box, we are tapping into a point in the electrical system that does not have a current limitation, so we can easily pull 20 or 30 amps if we need it for the horns.

If there were an easy way to wire that power to the factory relay socket that would be great, but there isn't unless you want to re-wire the fuse box. So instead I used a separate relay to switch power to the horns, and ran a wire to the factory relay socket so it will be activated by the normal horn button. I also ran a new wire to the compressor, because the factory 18 gauge wire is not big enough. In my setup, the only small gauge wire is the one from the factory relay socket to the new relay, and it only powers the relay.

Is that a better explanation of what's going on?

I assume your 3 horn installs were on S2000's? I also assume they use no more than 5 amps since they will work on an S2000 with no re-wiring?

When I installed my cheap Fiamm horns it blew the fuse the first time I used them. I tested it again by installing a 20 amp fuse instead of the 10, and while they worked, they were obviously not getting enough power. It took a fraction of a second for them to make noise, and they weren't all that loud. After re-wiring, they work much better, even a small tap on the horn button will make people near the front of the car jump and cover their ears.
