Default A simple question about installation...

I am going to be adding new components, rear speakers, a Sub and a Kicker 5-channel amp to my '03 S2K. Can I do all of this and KEEP MY STOCK HEAD UNIT??? Just want to make sure before I buy all of these products.

Yes, but you'll need a line driver.

My suggestion is to get a GOOD line driver, like the Phoenix Gold TLD22. The $80 you spend on that will do a better job than the $16-30 you spend on Pyramid line drivers. Your choice though!

If your going to do all that, you might as well cough up another 300-400 dollars for a good headunit and drop the rear speakers, sine your sub will fill the rear pretty well.

line driver basically converts the speaker wire into RCA's and boosts the signal to run to the amps.

I really wouldn't recommend buying all those things without a new head unit, simply because it's not going to sound that good. If you're not processing the sound that well from the beginning, all that's going to be coming out from the speakers is a crappy signal from your stock head unit. It would even sound better if you replaced your head unit with an aftermarket one and left all your speakers stock.

Aftermarket headunits are a much better source. Need a better source unit thats why. Have you ever amplified crap before?

Its like if you take dog doo and shape it into a rose it still looks and smells like dog doo.
Why do you want to keep the stock HU anyway???

Start with a HU first then work off of that, your doing a sound system install backwards. You should always start with a good HU. You need to have a clean signal to start with, so then you can move on from there.

600 dollar amp yet you want to keep your stock head unit. Call that strange, but normally people invest in 600 dollar head units and dump a little less in their amps. This is how it should break down the order you should do your audio if you do it step by step.

Headunit
Components - Amp
Sub - Amp
Rears can run off the head unit.
