Default which size speakers for front and rear?

hi all,

i realize there is a search function but it doesn't work very well on this site. my question is pretty simple. what size speakers are in the front? and what size/depth are recommended for the rear. is there a diy for cutting the back out for rear speakers?

thanks!

There is also an FAQ stickied at the top of this forum.

The front speakers are 6 1/2"

There are no rear speakers stock, so that is a LITTLE murky. If you use S-Pods you can fit 5 1/4" speakers. This is also the generally accepted size that will fit in the rear panels if you want to cut and fit speakers into them.

for fronts, they are 6 1/2. for the rear, the easiest size is 5 1/4. the depth from what i looked at crutchfield.com for the nearest kenwoods i have http://www.crutchfield.com/S-yv4DaGVmmXM/c...00&I=113KFC1360 says that they are 1-13/16 top mount depth. i have read of other members on here getting deeper speakers, even components in the rears, but i will let them answer as to what they did to modify for depth on them. i dont know of a diy for the rears, i have the Lucid back pannels. ill look for the link to their site if no one else posts it up.

PS-sorry to post some of same info as stated above, he was typing at same time i was.

Cutting the panels is pretty easy, just use the template that comes with the speakers and get a good cutting tool. I think I used a hack saw... not that good, still got a clean install. but it took a long time to cut. Anyway, if you are willing to try it, and take your time, I am confident that you will have good results.

The hardest part was finding the leads off of the stock HU, but you are probably going aftermarket HU, so that will be easy.

My personal opinion, is that the back speakers add a lot of volume so that you can hear it driving down the highway with the top down.

nice! thanks everyone for your input. i went with 6 1/2's for both front and rear. i have an alpine dvd headunit w/an integrated 3" screen on it. i will post results after completion. i will probably use a dremel for the holes

before you cut the holes, make sure the speaker magnets will fit in
the space behind the panels - I think that's a problem with many
6.5's and some 5.25's
