Default size of stock door speaker cutouts...

Hey all-

I am considering installing some Blaupunkt ODc660 components. They are oversized drivers, but claim that they are 6.5" speakers. I called Blaupunkt today and they said that the opening for the speakers would have to be 5.55" to accomodate these. How big is the existing hole? These are shallow mount speakers, so magnet clearance will most likely not be an issue. How much will I have to Dremmel if they do not fit?

thanks

John

6.5 is the size for the front speakers in the s2k.

if you have the speakers in hand, and they are indeed 6.5, they should fit. give it a try!

most of us have cut the speaker baskets to accomodate bigger magnets. but do not, under any circumstances dremel sheet metal it's not worth it because many many (any) 6.5 speaker will fit.

hope this helps

Thanks Willie....

I talked to Dave and he was 95% sure these speakers would fit. They claim to be oversized woofers, but the opening still only needs to be 5.55", instead of the 4.98" for their regular 6.5's. They are only 1/4" bigger in diameter.

These should be great speakers, because they are shallow mount (1.79"), have between 91-93 db sensitivity, and have the 1" tweeter (instead of the 1.2").

I ordered them yesterday from ebay....got the entire set for $43 + $17 shipping....not too bad.

*cough*
that's 1/2" bigger in diameter, and 1/4" bigger in radius.

given that you haven't listened to them, i hope you are satisfied with them.

i know Kronos measured the speaker opening way back when... if you could find his post, he'll have both a picture and info. also, you could always pull off the door and measure yourself. it's about 15 minutes work.

Worst case is that you have to either Dremel out the basket a lot or make a new spacer out of MDF(although most speaker don't require this)

that is waht I meant......1/4" RADIUS.....stupid fingers

I have listened to other Blaupunkt component speakers, and like the way they sound. They are rather responsive, for my needs, at low power (stock HU now.....Alpine in a few weeks). I read some reviews on these, and they reviewed out pretty good ( I know that doesnt mean much, but one guys says that his Metallica sounds GREAT on them, and that is the kinda music I listen to).

I will post in the pictures thread when I get all the goodies installed next month.

Crutchfield is selling the Blau 660 components for $39.99!

tsc 660

I think you will need to make a mounting ring.......the basket may be too small.

Those are the TsC series. I have those in the S-pods. They are good speakers (kinda distorted at high volume, though). I got the Over Drive series. The retail for $250, I got them from www.ikesound.com for $43. I dont know if I will need a ring, as they are shallow mount speakers (1.79" in depth). I may need to do some cutting, but that is where my friend who works in a metal fab. shop comes in handy....
