So ... why don't these rear 04 speakers work?

Default So ... why don't these rear 04 speakers work?

I opened up the rear panels on my MY04 and behind the drivers seat I found this:

"Rear speaker connector wires", I think to myself (having been told that they should be there!) The black wire appears thicker so I presumed that it was a common negative and the brown and the green were the individual positives.

I set the HU to fade rear (making sure that front was giving sound) and connect each speaker ... nothing!

What next?

Are they for the optional S pod speakers - but need to be connected somehow first?

Did you have these as an option Marc?

I wondering if they needed to be "enabled" too. I am not doing an S-pod install - I am going to place them in the rear panels as I did in my 02

No, they are not speaker wires, they are harness of rear window defroster for hardtop option.
There is a 4-pins pigtail harness for rear speakers beneath the center console near the head unit.

This is a (blurred) picture of the opening for the HU. I don't remember seeing an extra pigtail, but I suppose that I wasn't looking for it.

The 4-pins harness should have the colors as below:
Rear left: Blue/Yellow(+) Gray/Red(-)
Rear Right: Red/Yellow(+) Brown/White(-)

If you looking for an unused harness under the center console, you will find it. Or if you trace one of the color wire above from the light blue harness of the HU, it will ended at the harness.

So they include all the wiring for the hardtop in the car? Interesting. Reminds me of the cruise control in the `80s model RX-7s. Everything for cruise control was included in the base car, but the button to enable it was like $200.
