Default Soft top closes but doesn’t open when pressing the switch.

(Ap1) When I’m pressing the switch forward (closing) I hear the motor engage, windows go down and the top attempts to close. But when I pull the switch to open the soft top there’s nothing at all, not a click, nothing. The parking brake light is on, Iv checked the relay, it works. Iv looked everywhere for a solution, can’t seem to find one. Any ideas?

I don't know the answer. But you may want to post your question here. You may get more responses.

Explain 'attempts to close'?

Is the motor too weak to actually close the top? How are you trying to open it if it isn't able to close?

Or maybe the car is mid rebuild, and top isn't even intact, and you're just testing the motor goes fwd and back? So 'attempt' just means the motor goes on, but since its not connected to top you're calling that attempt?

If its the former, I'm thinking motor. Its weak trying to go in one direction, and totally unable to go other direction. If one direction almost dead, not surprising other direction fully dead.

But are you getting voltage at the motor when trying? What voltage level? How did you verify the relay is good?

Did you confirm its same relay for up vs down? Do you have a circuit diagram?

Good time to have a shop manual for sure. The windows and top can be tricky to troubleshoot without it.
