Default Sound Deadning in Doors?

Just wondering your thoughts on sound deadning in the doors of the S?

I am having my system installed on the weekend and I do not know if i should use it or not.

Does the door rattle if it is not done??

It is pretty expensive stuff here, your thoughts will be most appreciated.

I put Dynamat Extreme in both my doors. I think it's worth it. This material dampens the metal in the door so you hear more of the music being made by the speaker. In my view, it helps you get more out of your speakers no matter how good they are or are not.

I installed it both on the outer door panel and removed the plastic moisture barrier and installed it on the inside too. Is the car quieter? No, not really. Since I upgraded the entire system, I can't compare before/after as far as audio. I will say that there are absolutely no rattles and the door does "feel" more solid when you close it. In all, it was worth it since you have to take the door apart anyway.

There is a more cost efficient version of Dynamat. It's called Raam mat. You can get a whole roll of it for $100. I purchased it off Ebay after hearing good review after good review about it. That roll will probably do a couple of vehicles.

I bought several sheets of a dynamat knockoff called VE-1 from Parts Express. It's lighter, cheaper and thinner than dynamat but may not be as effective. For example, it doesn't have the outer aluminum so-called "constraining layer".

I've finished the cabin and trunk. Tomorrow I think I can complete one or both doors.

Like the above poster said, I don't expect noise reduction but I do want to gain some vibration damping.

It's been a real chore the whole way through. Just hope the results will be worth the effort I've put in.

Sure will. The doors have been the most difficult part of the whole project and that's saying something. I'll see how much progress I can make today...

I was talking to my intaller who was dynamatting my doors yesterday. He was complaining about his "meat hooks" for hands after the job.

Yes. I did this myself and if you really want to cover the door skin well, you will tear up your hands! I should have tried wearing gloves in hindsight!
