Default speaker only work when clutch engaged?

I just bought another s2000, it is 01 and bone stock.

The driver speaker is VERY soft in output of sound until the clutch is engaged, then the sound is back to full power. The pass side works fine all of the time.

The radio and speakers have never been changed

Is it possible that Honda runs the speaker lines that close to the clutch assembly under the dash there? What else should I consider in troubleshooting this?

thanks

I think it might be your left leg muffling the speaker.

Only thing I can think of is to see if any wires are getting pulled by the clutch pedal . Clutch is mechanical, and should have nothing to due with the radio / speaker assembly. Two independent functions.....

hhhmmmmm...... a puzzler!

does it do it while the car is not moving? like if your parked and you push the clutch? it might be a lose wire jiggleing from the acceleration.

D'you have a chance to check that wiring yet? I'm curious about this too.

There's nothing connected between the clutch and the audio system. It's almost got to be a wiring problem, but the stock speaker wires should be harnessed and no way for the clutch pedal to get to them.

Interesting.

thanks golfpro for the ideas. The car rests under its cover until the weekend, so I will check things out this weekend and post back my findings.

I dont recall testing the sound when the car is not rolling.. or even started.

WRONG!!

Man o man, what a dumbass I am.

My fat leg was indeed hindering the sound from the driver speaker. In my own defense, I owned a 02 s2000 prior to this 01, and as you know, the 02 had the seaparate tweets up on the door, so this was never a problem.

In summary --> what a horribly pathetic 'sound system' in the 00-01, and what an even incredibly dumb question I posted here

I figured instead of closing this I would let you all laugh at me.

that is all

Hahaha... that was the first thing i noticed when i got this car! that is why an upgrade to component speakers with door mounted tweeters are a must!
