Default Speaker Question

I presently have Polk Audio Components mounted in my 01. The tweeter are mounted in the windshield frames. I also have an Alpine 150 watt 2 channel amp. I was thinking of changing out the speakers to the Alpine components and a larger amp. My question is has anyone used the Alpine Components and if so how well do they work. The Polks are ok when the top is up, but loose quite a bit when down. I was told that with a larger amp and the Alpines I would see a very noticeable improvement.

It's hard to compare a Polk speaker vs. an Alpine speaker by brand name alone. Every manufacturer makes different levels of speakers with varying quality, cost, etc. The question of which is better is usually answered by listening to them.

Is that amp 150x2 rms, and if so, why would you *need* a larger amp? And especially don't buy a larger amp unless its appropriate for the power rating of the speakers you intend to drive with it.

So, to answer the question, there's no guarantee that you receive any improvement. For example, if you replaced Polk's best speaker set with a low cost Alpine model, and bought the biggest amp in the world, but had to set the gain very low to match the speaker's power handling capability.........you could receive no benefit at all.
