Default Speaker recommendations

I got a pioneer hu over the weekend but held off on purchasing my speakers until after i am fully satisfied with the ones i will purchase.

can the audiophiles out here provide me with recommendations for speakers that provide solid and crisp sound? with and without an amp. I will most likely get an amp but am really really concerned about the sound output the speakers will provide. I am not planning to get a sub as i want to keep my trunkspace for my golf clubs and am not wanting to thump all over the place. I am really more concerned with the crispness of the sound and being able to listen to the music with my top down. if it can sound anything like my bose audio system on my old infiniti it would be great and if it sounds like my B&W ipod dock it would be great too.

I was looking at the Morel speakers but seem to be overpriced.

Some background: I listen to all sorts of music but mostly alternative rock, rap, jazz, some classical. I listen to Michael Buble...

I am looking to spend some cash but don't want to go broke.

Thanks to all.

I'll let Neutered Sputniks or Claus chime in with recommendations for speakers, but I will say that you can't get the sound quality you're looking for without an amp. HU power is simply not enough to drive most speakers, and the ones that it is enough for aren't worth buying in the first place.

I have a Pioneer headunit too, so I hope i'm not jacking your thread.

but mine puts out 45Wx4... don't care about front and rear adjustment so I can merge the left and right and get 90W a side to share between the tweet/6x9.

that should be plenty for speaker, no?

No.

Headunits don't allow you to bridge the outputs, and that's peak power, anyway. Peak wattage is more or less meaningless, and is just thrown around for marketing purposes. The number you care about is RMS (or continuous) wattage, which is essentially the power an amp or HU puts out in normal operating conditions. Most headunits push 18-20 W RMS, which isn't enough to get a distortion free signal to the speakers at any decent volume.

Also, unless you've done some serious modification, the door speakers are 6 1/2", not 6x9".

The best thing is to go and listen to them yourself, if you can afford to definitely amp them, much cleaner sounding with more power. I like my MB Quarts, some people say the treble is to bright, I don't mind that and it is adjustable, some like Focals, Polk, etc... What matters is what sounds good to you. Good luck!

how are the alpine r series speakers? does anyone have them? what is your satisfaction level. furthermore, how big are the speakers?

I am really interested in some recommendations so that i can listen to them and to narrow down my selection.

I am definately looking into amping but nothing outrageous.

you'll need an amp for sure...

Type Rs can take a lot of abuse but might not be the kind of sound you are looking for. Your demand for SQ is not that high, I think most of the mid to entry level Morels would work for you. And no, they aren't overpriced if you can find a trust worthy retailer in our area Since you are close to me, you can also pm me if you need help.

However, you really need to decide which type of music you'd want to live with in your S2k. An open top convertible would revel all the advantages and disadvantages of the types of sound stage a set of speakers can provide.
