Default Stock Dash Controls

I know that this is a subject covered in many threads but I assume that the situation is changing over time.

Which manufacturers of head units have a remote function that will run off the stock dash controls?

I am aware of Pinky's mod but living in the UK would sooner find another solution.

Thanks for your help

I would just use pinky's mod and then you'll have a broad range of choices for a head unit. He's shipped all over the world its not big deal.

I think theres only a few wired remote heads out there. You'd have to know what you're doing to make them work with your dash.

I even have the UK ISO harness. So I could ship it to you an then you choose your head unit later! Though so far only 2 head units from Sony don't work and Rockford Fosgate radios don't work.

Actually, since you are in Europe... you can get a variety of Alpine heads with the remote jack. Then just get the Alpine-S2000 adapter (KCE-865C) for the dash controls and you are 100% wired.

Find a couple of Alpine heads that you like and have the dealer show you the back of the units: if there's a "headphone" like jack on the back, then you are all set!

Plus, "settling" for an Alpine because it can be 100% hardwired is not so bad...

BTW, I "settled" for an IVA-C800...

The hard-wired adapter is only availible in Europe... but several US Alpine headunits have the connection for it: IVA-C800, CVA-1005, CVA-1003, etc...

The European radios I've used in the past have the frequency hop 0.1 MHz instead of 0.2 MHz like the American units (which are also locked onto odd tenths of frequencies). Can anyone confirm/deny this is the case with the majority of European units? If so, their radios should still work over here in the States.

I have a Sony head unit and Pinky's mod and, as my username suggests, I'm even further away than the UK.

It all works fine, except the US uses jumps of 10Khz in the AM band and Aus (and I believe the rest of the civilised world) use 9Khz. So AM is a little useless. Mind you, AM is a bit useless in general in Aus, so I'd had the unit installed for 8 months before I got around to testing it and found out it doesn't work. Not a big deal.

My recommendation is to go the Alpine/hardwired adaptor route unless there's a particular head you want, in which case go the Pinky route.
