Stock Front Speakers with OEM HU Rear Channels...
I decided to hook up a 6.5" mid from the stock component system to a rear channel of the OEM HU. Upon doing so, I noticed that it sounds nothing like it did when it was driven by the front channel.
Is the stock tweeter and mid wired in parallel? If so, is that why it didn't sound like it did when driven by the front channels since I only hooked up the mid, and the OEM HU saw a 4-ohm load instead of a 2-ohm load?
So why didn't it sound as good?

Wait, you didn't hook up the tweeters and you wonder why they sound different? Does it happen to sound like an Thomas Edison's record player?

You have these stock speakers still installed in the stock door locations or behind the seats in the plastic panels?
So perhaps as John mentioned, the rear OEM HU channels are weaker than the fronts in terms of output since the rears should be used as fill?
In any event, what is the impendance of the stock front setup? Is it not 2-ohms, since it appears that the tweeter and mid are wired in parallel?

can you describe it a bit better?
where were the stock speakers when you actually listened to them?
were they free-ballin'?
mounted somewhere?
sealed?
are you sure they were in phase?
the front speaker combo are close to 4 ohms, iirc. while they are wired in parallel, the bass blocker between the tweeter and the mid throws off a typical 2 parallel 4 ohms = 1 2 ohm load. it is likely the impedance is going to swing a bit at the higher frequencies.
btw, i'm shooting from the hip (ie memory), but i'm pretty sure it should be close to a 4 ohm load.
(and sorry John, but i'm pretty sure the OEM S2000 honda radio outputs the same wattage front and rear...)

Thanks for clearing that up Phil. I was not sure.....I have heard of channels putting out different wattages in other roadsters (I think the 1st gen. Miata HU did that.....i think....as the rear channels were imbedded in the headrest of the seats).

that wouldn't surprise me at all. but as best i can recall, the S2000 OEM HU is an off the shelf unit, so it's actually configured for vehicles that do have rear speakers.
of course, i could be wrong... afterall, mine didn't stay in the car for more than about 1 month.
(had to wait for the DCI to ship...
) i don't even remember what it looked like.
