Wait what about this!

http://www.1728.com/quadtrap.htm

The only thing I see then is taking into account the thickness of the wood (3/4") when figuring the length of the sides.

So I still need some help here...

Her you go:

http://www.webmath.com/rtri.html

With values entered.

http://www.webmath.com/cgi-bin/rtri.cgi?c=...e=&b=&d=%3F&a=3

You know the hypotenuse is 7.125 and side A is equal to (23 - 17)/2 (or 3")

This gives you an approximate angle of 65 degrees

the 7.125 sides.... wouldn't they become 8.625 with the 3/4 thickness of the wood?

ok while that helped a bit, I am still struggling with the depth of the box. What is the actual hieght of the trapezoid on the sides of the box?

(not the length of it's sides but it's actual height?)
