Hi Guys, I need some help. I have a Hifonics amp that is rated at 100 x 2 at 4 ohms, and 200x2 at 2 ohms. I hooked it up to my 10

 

Out of phase?
Check your pos and neg to make sure its wired properly.

 

I wouldn't run 16 guage wire to a sub...

 

Also, what head unit...The problem could be with the settings, if you have something similar to Alpines Bass Engine.

 

The head unit is an Alpine 9827. As far as sub and bass settings, i have an option to turn the sub from 0 to 15, and bass from 0-7 or something.

I'm pretty sure the terminals are correct. What gauge wire should I be using?

Tell us a little more about your amp: Model, who installed it, what guage wire was used to install it, where is it grounded, where the wires (power/rca) were routed... are you using the low level (RCA) inputs or the high level (speaker terminal) input?

Also was this hooking your buddies amp up to your car/wiring or was this hooking your sub up to his amp setup?

 

The amp is a Hifonics Z400 zeus series. The other amp the PO had in there is a Sony, I don

 

Well then I would check the wiring. I would be using 12 or 10 ga wire to the sub. Also make sure that the amp is grounded well (make sure there isn't paint between the wire and the body where the ground is attatched) and that the power wire for the amp is big enough for your setup.

Just for ha, ha's and since its easy to try....Try going go through each of the bass types...per page 7 of your Alpines owners manual. (press and hold <center.f.> for 2 secs, and scroll by (<--) and (-->)

 

So far what I've read here sounds like something to do with the amp possibly. Are you sure its working properly. You did the right thing testing the sub on a different amp. That rules out the sub... so I would start looking at the amp and the setting on the HU. Is the HU new as well? As in your not used to the settings and how it works?
