Default Which sub should i get...

Hi, i'm about to build a sub box in the trunk that will fit into the area where the tool kit was originally.

I got the diagram from one of the posts here on the s2ki forum and it appears that it will give me about .9 cu of volume.

I was wondering what sub i should/could put in so that it sounds nice.

I don't want to spend millions for this sub, just something around 200-300$

I was looking at the INFINITY KAPPA PERFECT 12.1D 12" SUBWOOFER which seems popular with the s2000 owners....

The only thing is that i read that it needs 1.0 cu and i will get only about .9.. will that mess things up for me?

I'm building the box out of MDF.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. (i will be using the sub with my alpine 9855 and an amp which i have yet to purchase... no idea what i should get).

Dave

WOW that is amazing.. i would love to do that but i have never worked with fiberglass and i'm a little scared. I would give it a try but i'm not too sure where to begin. If you could tell me a little about it, it would be great.

Thanks for the help,

Dave

the JL 10W6 and 12W6 will both work just fine in .9 cu ft..

and no, if you want to put that Infinity into .9 cu ft? and it recommends 1 cu ft? it probably won't affect the sound much at all... i wouldn't go a whole lot smaller, but .1 cu ft is not a lot of space. imagine 4 rubik's cubes (normal size) and you've got right at or just a little more than .1 cu ft total.

If you managed to get .9.. thats fine!.. it will have more punch then bottom end bass..

As for the fiberglassing.. check out marine stores or body kit places and look for something called "fiber glass repair kit' this will come with instruction on the basics of fiberglassing... my box was made from a single large kit!

Its pretty easy once you know what you are doing.. pm me if you need more advice champ!

No No No, get this one!!!

and I am not kidding, I have a couple.

Fits your price range
fits in a really small box
great sound quality
good response
really loud with a good amp
haven't blown one yet

has anybody fried one of these yet? I'm curious.

I've fried just about every sub I've ever had.

Hey thanks for the advice, i looked and it and it looks good... i'm not really sure how to chose the right sub... they all look the same to me. I wouldn't know how to chose one based on specs .. the only way i could is if i would hear them.

Um... is this one good http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSIDQ12D2V2

It's the same ones you were telling me about but it's the 12"... i really want a 12".

Does anyone else have any experience with these subs??

I have had mine for about 8 years and never had a problem.

The one you chose is a dual 2 ohm, so it would be running a 1ohm load to an amp if run parallel wired, you may want the dual 4ohm so as to run at 2ohm

this will depend on what amp you choose/own

you will want to run as close to if not over the nominal wattage, like 350-500

this will mean you will not be at full output on the amp when you are at 3/4 volume on the head unit, any thing over 10% distortion will blow speakers, leave a good amount of dynamic headroom to allow peaks

more wattage is your friend, less will destroy
