Default sub in the trunk well

I have a custom made box sitting in the trunk well of my S.... the box unfortunatly is way to small for the 12 inch sub i have in there so my bass isnt that much..... just wondering what would happen if i removed the underside of the box and let it go freely into the well..... does it need to be air tight???

thoughts suggestions?

YES it must be airtight. If it isn't 100% airtight (including around the edge of the sub) you'll lose tons of performance from the sub.

Perhaps look into something like Polyfill for your box.

Yes. You are essentially making a ghetto, untuned ported enclosure, and it will sound aweful. Kind of like if your sub is ripped....nasty rollover and flappy sounding bass. Dont do it. If you want more bass, get an Alphasonik 800 series 10" and feed it 700wrms. It will blow the roof off your car (hard to do though, since the s2000 is a convertible)

12" subs are not necessary in an s2k.

Ehhh...Polyfill is made for marginal volume increases, but nothing major. A good 12 will still starve in there. Take my advice. Get a better 10"

Most people here will back me up....a good 10 is better than a sloppy 12.

Again...PM John on his Alpha 800 + box groupbuy. Its a FANTASTIC SUB (over 30 people have it on here) and will work well anywhere from 250wrms to 800wrms.

(He also has a kicka$$ price on amps that he includes with this groupbuy if you are interested)
Ive had mine for a long time now, and absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Behold, the glory:
