Default Subwoofer Amp Recommendations

I washed my car recently and a loose cap on my wash gel lead to the gel getting directly on the wire posts for my sub amp's power cables. Now I have no power light at all so I assume the amp is toast (the fuses at the battery seemed fine).

Does anyone have recommendations for high quality sub amps that will push 2 e8a subs? I have a two channel amp now but can I switch to mono amp without wiring changes?

I was running a Soundstream Tarantula 700/2 which pushes 350 watts RMS x 2 (http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...&Product_ID=552). I think I'd prefer something smaller this time that still puts out clean power.

I'm thinking about the JL Audio 500/1. Any thoughts?

I'm running a PDX1.600 on 1 Diamond Audio MacDaddy12, no complaints. Amp is nice and small too. I've never played with the JL amps, but I'm sure they're very decent.
Soundstream always made very good stuff, I loved their old components.

Hey sw05s2k, on your PDX-1.600 what input gain did you select (0.1 - 1.0v or 1.0 - 8.0v)? Does your sub get quiet if you select the 1 - 8v?

I don't remember off hand, I'll take a look this evening and get back to you.

EDIT: I forgot I drove it this morning...

The amp is set at 0.1-1.0.

When I switch to 1.0 - 8.0 the sub goes very quiet, almost no output at all.

Same thing here... I guess that means there's nothing wrong with my setup

...or both of you have the gain knob in the wrong position.
if you're happy with the way it's behaving, fine, but if you have a 4-volt
preamp output, any time you turn the volume up past 1/4 power you'll
push the amp into clipping. and I'm also surprised you don't find the
bass to be overwhelming as you're getting your sub amp's 600 watts
long before your other amp produces its maximum power, unless you
have that one similarly set. Either way you're effectively limiting your
headunit output to 1-volt, losing all the benefits of a high voltage preout.

^ Mine has never clipped and the gain is at half-way point.

The sub RCA output from my HU is not used at all in my set-up. I have one set of RCA's ran into the input on my Symmetry unit which then goes to each amplifier.

Does that have two speaker posts? It looks like you may have to go up to the 1000 watt amp to easily wire both subs.
