OK, I recently bought a used MY 06 S2K. The PO had a subwoofer/amp/etc installed. The 10" subwoofer is installed in a nice wooden box which fits in the trunk well and is carpetted to match. The speaker faces upward and is exposed to damage by anything placed in the trunk.
Recently visited the city (we live in a small village), and went to 4 car audio places looking for a grille of some sort. No luck. Only one type found, and it fouled the Punch p2 speaker surround.
What do y'all do to protect a subwoofer installed like this? Ideas?
I'm considering:
a. Put a piece of plywood over it on stand offs
b. Fab an expanded metal screen
c. Remove the whole thing and sell it cheap (make me an offer)
Replace the box all-together with one from DK...I've easily put 25 lbs or more on mine. You don't get quite the cubic air volume by leaving room for the cover, but it makes the trunk soooo much more useful. I've even squeezed TWO sets of golf clubs, shoes and jackets in here! Just gotta watch for small loose stuff getting under the cover....golf balls and tees and such.
The grill itself done as a large opening in the center of the cover, then a metal screen mesh goes over the opening and then the entire thing is carpeted to match. It then snaps in place over the sub. Here's pics with it installed and removed.
