Thumbs up Subwoofer in trunk output levels

I just installed a new set of component speakers, Alpine Type-S's and a Rockford Fosgate 200.2 amp, already had an after-market head unit, the speakers sound great but the bass is...um negligible. I've had quite a bit of experience with systems in cars so I am kind of questioning the output of a subwoofer located in the trunk since there isn't much of a connection between the trunk and passenger compartment, as far as I can tell the only air passage are the holes behind the seats leading into the trunk through which I ran the power, RCA's, and speaker cables. The holes are not really large enough to allow full transmittance of sound in my opinion. I don't want to go to the time and expense of installing another amp and sub in the trunk to have it just rattle like hell and not actually put any bass into the passenger compartment. What is everyone's experience with having a sub in the trunk? Is there good sound or does it just rattle? And does the dynamat actually stop the inevitable rattling? I was planning on installing one sub, a 12" if possible, if not just one 10".

Mine transmits sound just fine, certainly not like a hatchback or anything, but more than adequate for what I listen to.
There's really no difference between comparing a regular sedan and the S as far as the bass finding its way into the passenger compartment.

Here's some reading for you, both rattles and "muffled sound" can be addressed. I just took the smaller piece between the window and trunk out and it has already made a big difference.

I have 1 10" sub in my trunk. Bass is awesome. Not super intense with the top down going fast on the highway as the wind noise for me does drown it out a bit, but my car is super loud with top down and exhaust and intake screaming.
