Default Suggest Receiver/ Head Unit and Speakers

Hi guys, I don't know much about this stuff so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm looking for an affordable head unit (under 200 bucks). Has to have easy access to connecting my Ipod. What do you guys recommend? Will the audio controls near my steering wheel still work?

How's this?

If that matters I'd suggest looking at what's compatible with Modifry's DCI (which you'll also need).

Pioneer and Alpine are (in my opinion) have the best Ipod interfaces. The Pioneer 5100 is a awesome deck. As a comparable Alpine, check out the CDA-105. You'll need to get the Ipod adapter for the Alpine (the Pioneer uses a USB plug and you have to provide a USB to Ipod cable) that plugs into the back of the deck and you can either drop in into the net on the passenger side or you could run it all the way to the center console.

A used 9886 would be nice and should be around 200 bucks.

How much does the usual install cost? Anyone know any recommended places in the north San Diego area?

What's the best bang for the buck speakers? I'm just looking for a cheap setup, ideally a head unit (probably the Pioneer 5100) and a set of speakers.

It's pretty easy to install a headunit, you should just do it yourself or with the help of a friend. At a shop they'll probably charge you 20-40 bucks.

Any idea which one of these scrolls through the songs faster? (Alpine or Pioneer) Can either of them search directly from the ipod while plugged in?

Most of the Ipod ready HU's won't let you control the music through your Ipod, but rather through the HU. It's easier to do it anyway...most interfaces are pretty good.

I have the Alpine iDA-x303. No CD player since it's meant for Ipod use and regular radio use (also comes HD radio ready and XM radio ready).

It comes with the Ipod cord that you can fish through the center console (to keep it hidden) and plug into your Ipod at your desired location (I have mine hidden in the center console/glove box).

It is a great unit, fits flush, looks good and gives the stock speakers a nice kick. Upgraded speakers would be next (next on my list) and you can get some good ones fairly cheap.
