Default thinking about a laser / radar detector

hey guys... im having a little problem at the moment. i have been looking at laser / radar detectors for a while now, and i am wondering what is the point of having a laser detector ? you need a laser jammer linked to the laser detector so when you are locked on the jammer can disrupt the laser.... i was thinking about getting the V1, does the V1 have an inbuilt jammer or do i get that seperatly?
also i am a little worried about getting a laser jammer and getting cought by the police. I know they can be passed off as "garage door openers" but what happens if they check to see if it is real or not?

any answers would be a great help

Thanks

Adam

Well....if you get a jammer, there is no need for a detector. However, jammers are EXTREMELY illegal. As far as radars go, Valentine 1 gets my vote!

thanks NFRs2000NYC

i would like to get a jammer because here in the uk there are allot of police sticking their guns out the back of white vans (only marked on the side ) (they legaly have to have big markings on their vehicle). Is there anyway of disguising it as a garage door opener ? and actually make it work as a door opener aswell ?

I have read allot of good things about the valentine1 but the only thing that is a slight put off is the

Oh....sorry bro.....I didnt notice you were from the UK.

Jammers are usually hidden, and the only way the police can find out you have one, is have a tool that tells them your car is scrambling beams/waves....which is almost impossible to do by regular police. I say get a GOOD jammer/scrambler. But you didnt hear it from me

V1 will save you money in the long run. I've been saved from definite tickets on 3 occasions and have been alerted to illicit roving highway taxation at least 10 times.

Jammers are highly illegal in the US and are useless anywhere in the world (they don't work).

Ladar/Laser jammers are legal around here, but I'm not sure of their effectiveness. My V1 has caught the background of Laser in time to save my butt, so countermeasures are not always absolutely necessary.

Get a V1! You can have it remotely mounted, and all you will see is a small light.

I know they are illegal. But they are well hidden and its VERY hard for someone to prove you have one (they have hidden on/off switches)

So yea, they are illegal, but no one will ever catch it. Plus, he isnt in the US, he is in the UK....what are the laws over there....if they are legal, then they wont work

laser / radar detectors are legal over here but if your found with one mr plod isnt happy. jammers are deffinatly illegal here.
how can you hide the V1 ? i thought you needed it to be somewhere so it can scan back and forward eg possitioned on the visor so it had clear veiw for the rear.

I do not speed to much but there are so many speed cameras now that i decided to take action..... my next step is to destroy them......
OK who has a hummer .

Thanks for your replys guys and keep them comming

do a search on Radar Jammers -- you'll find heated commentary everywhere, and i'd suggest you specifically look for posts by MacGyver, as he goes into the issue w/ great detail and with a very knowledgable background. generally speaking, to get one that works you'll need to spend major money and w/o only moderate (if any) results.

the V1 is an excellent detector, but if you're looking to get great detection w/o the arrows i suggest you consider the Passport 8500. it has very similar detection to the V1, but for a notably decreased price.

the 8500 also directly interfaces w/ the Z3 laser jammer from Escort. allegedly the laser jammers are much more effective and inexpensive when compared to their radar counterparts.
