wha?!

i did my yearly check on them to make sure everything is still good, and well, my rear 2 have (very unfortunatly) broken.
, well the foam ring around the cone has become old and has separated from the cone. suppose the speakers where getting a bit old, 13 years! is there anyway of putting some new foam, maybe rubber around the cone again?
if you need a pic i can easily get you one.
i dont really want to pay another $400 to get another pair of speakers, i would rather just repair these.
nope, don't need a pic. i've seen countless cases of surround deterioration. it is definitely a problem, especially with foam surrounds that are exposed to the sun.
i don't recall where exactly, but i know i've repaired and seen surrounds repaired in the past. they sell kits for this, and while it will likely change the sound of the speakers a bit, it shouldn't be overly dramatic and can breathe some new life into your currently dead speakers.
iirc, i last did this to a set of home speakers, and it was in the pre-internet days. i ordered the surrounds from a supplier in the back of an audio mag. i can't imagine that they are hard to find now...
nope -- easy to find: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&W...oup_ID=373&SO=2
that should bring you to a section in Parts Express (www.partsexpress.com) that has dozens of different surround repair kits. you can just do a search for surround speaker kit as well.
and here's a 6.5" foam surround kit: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=260-915
this was just the first site i checked. i'm sure there are dozens of other options out there if you look.
(edit: don't write off on calling Boston directly. they may sell a repair kit themselves.)
