Tweeters in A-Pillar - NEED HELP
Need help figuring out how to flush mount some Audiobahn AT68 tweeters. I see it has been done, but it was an old post.
The stereo shops here are saying the solid metal behind the plastic cover does not allow for flush mount.
Anyone done it, or have alternate mounting locations for tweeters other than the doors?
I'm ready to put these in and have run into a road block.
Thanx in advance,
Hockey

My opinion is that the A-pillar is not a good placement as it is too far from the woofer. I would have liked to have placed them at the 02+ location but it didn't look very good. Best compromise I think is where I put them. Use the angle mounts or custom fab a higher degree angle mount as many have done here and put them just in front of the door handle/lock assembly. Sounds very good here, I just put in my MB Quart's there yesterday.
Putting a tweeter on the a-pillar is a good way to create a wider sound stage but it is to be added as long as you have a primary tweeter mounted by the woofer.
Typically you want to have the tweeter no less than 2" from the woofer and no more than 11" from the woofer.
I have seen the way CRX7 has described and some have put the tweeter right in the speaker grille on the door.

I did need to kick up the gain setting a little though at this location since it's almost under the dash. I usually run them at the -6dB crossover setting, but I decided on the -3dB setting here. I'll try to get some pics up soon, I think they look pretty sweet in this location as well, not quite stock looking but it doesn't look at all out of place. Also, definitely consider running an amp to these speakers, I was a little disappointed in the power level from my Sony 52w x 4. Sounds descent but distorts when you kick it above 3/4 volume, which is where I need it on the highway with the top down. Now I have to get an amp and start wiring and take the door panels off again.
I also highly recommend the lucid 6 1/2" front speaker mounts, I made custom mounts out of plywood which took a LONG time, and now I'm not too happy about the damping and mount quality of these. I already ordered the lucid mounts so I guess I'll mount and wire an amp when I replace the mounts.
Other factors to consider, I'm running rear components as well so the fill and sound staging gets picked up a little higher by them, and I have a Sony HU with DSO which picks the sound stage up as well.

There's another guy on here that did both the lower tweeters in the door and the A-pillar tweeters and wired them in parallel. Check it out and some other installs in the Stereo install sticky at the top of this forum.

There are always different theories on speaker placement. My installer recommended an ear level tweeter install, and it totally changed the sound. I've heard a few different speaker placements in the S2000 and haven't found one yet that sounds as clean as my car.

This is the best location, IMHO.
