Default Unconventional Theft Deterrent

Hi All,

**Edit**

I just purchased my first S2000 and I am so scared that someone is going to steal it, I am seriously having a hard time focusing at work (typing this at work). This is the nicest car I have ever owned and the last thing I want is to lose all the hard work and time it took to get this car.

I know all the basic preventative measures to take, but these can all be beaten by a thief with tools and knowledge:
1. Garage if you can
2. Always lock doors
3. Don't leave in urban area overnight
4. Purchase alarm

But what about measures that the thief cannot beat? When I had a 240sx, it was stolen (and luckily recovered after a joy ride). After that, I would take out the ignition module from the engine wiring harness whenever I left my car. I figured this would stop even a thief You can see it here:

Is there something like this I can take out of my engine harness as easily as this? Are there any Unconventional Theft Deterrents that people employ with these cars? Even a hidden kill switch can be found.

Thanks!

You can put a disconnect switch on the battery, you remove the knob and the car won't start, they sell them for like $6 on ebay. Most thieves wont spend the time to figure it out or carry tools to bypass the mod.

It is like general warfare. The bad guys and good guys are always coming up with something to defeat the other.

You have hit the low hanging fruit. You might include parking in a manner to make it difficult to tow. A "kill" switch that is well hidden helps. An alarm that sends you a text if it detects something in its capability can be very helpful as well as a GPS position monitor for you or the police (LoJack) That way you can get it back fast before it is chopped.

I know you can tow this car from either end and you can also tow from one side with these nifty dollies but those may be rare for the average thief. I have thought about making something that attaches to 2 wheels on either side and are linked together with a cable or chain. (tough to cut under this car) They attachments would resemble the trailer style metal locks but are too flimsy for my use. I will have them welded and locked with a round key. Not too heavy or big that it is a pain. Not for daytime fast parking but overnight in questionable at risk areas.

I almost like the idea of having only a standalone GPS system with a battery cutoff switch rather than a standard alarm system. I don't keep anything of value in my car as all of my work stuff is either immediately taken to the office or into the house, so an alarm really wont do anything.

Having a GPS system that doesn't alert the thief (with an alarm) it is there, and notifies me if the car moves more than X radius from the pinned location. That would allow for recovery if it was taken on a truck bed. The battery cutoff switch would just stop a conventional thief (crime of opportunity vs planned car theft).

I wish I didn't even have to think of this stuff...

I also have a hard top, so that will prevent hoodlums from simply slashing the rag top to take whatever is left in the car.

The seats alone can be pretty desirable. You have a hard top and that helps. I would, if you have not already, install seat locks. I added "warning" decals to the side windows (in my cars color) that warn of McGuard seat locks-just in case the thieves can read.

I have heard of thieves breaking the side window in order to steal the hardtop itself, so a hardtop might actually be considered an item of value versus a theft deterrent. And yeah, seats are often stolen as are steering wheels and gauge clusters.

Im really surprised that thieves havnt been ripping off hard tops, being one loser around asks almost 5k for them.... figured that would motivate thieves to do dumb shit. Likely id assume most who do have hardtops are smart and garage the car all together.
