Default UNDER-THE-SEAT AUDIO ACCESSORIES

ALRIGHT...YOU AUDIOPHILES AND/OR PLAIN GENIUSES OUT THERE...

Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

I have searched this forum especially the "electronics" forum regarding amps and subs for our beloved S2Ks. I have also "GOOLEd," "YAHOOed," and '"ASKed" but without success.

Really could use your help and expertise based on personal experience. I DO NOT WANT TO INSTALL ANYTHING IN MY TRUNK as I need every inch of space for work equipment.

AMPS (maximum spending limit $400.00)
- are there amps out there that 1) 4x channel 2) small enough to fit under the driver's seat and able to ventilate/cool itself, yet 3) powerful enough and 5) reliable

SUBS (maximum spending limit $400.00)
- are there subs out there that 1) small enough to fit under the passenger seat, yet 2) powerful enough to complement the Alpine CDA-9857 and last but not least 3) reliable

MISC (PAC - Pacific Accessory Corporation SWI-ALP. The SWI-ALP allows the customer to retain the use of their steering wheel or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit. Works with Alpine's OEM Steering Remote Ready radios.
Has anyone here ever had experience or have it installed in their S2Ks? PROS? CONS?

THANKS AGAIN GUYS Feel free to call me a MORON...I don't mind 'cuz I'm a moron when it comes to audio electronics

For the most part you are very limited on space under the seats. You can probably fit a smaller satellite radio controller, but placing an amp there will likely mean you can not move the seats forward and back very easy. If you do not transport giants in the passenger seat you may consider getting a JL 300/4 amp and placing it behind the passenger seat on the wall. I have a 500/1 there and only lost about 1" of leg room. JL amps (not the e series) work well there since the heat sink is on one side of the amp.

Again on the under the seat idea - not much space for any type of real subwoofer, or any speaker for that matter.

Ditch the PAC-SWI idea and get a Modifry DCI from the S2KI market place.

Strongly agree with WLAURENT attempting to mount anything under the seats would probably be a lossing battle. You can get an amp above the gas tank though, I have 2 JL amps 300/4 & 500/1 mounted above the tank, lost the spare tire, but that's what the tow truck is for.

I doubt you'll be able to get a sub under the seat. You may be able get a 6.5" sub in the roll hoops with some S-pods

Hope you find what your looking for.

Thanks WLAURENT & PTHermes for your input. You guys and this forum in particular have been very helpful.

Thanks again...

PS. I'm definitely going with Modifry DCI. I only mentioned the PAC-SWI because I saw it on one of the stores on the web when I was planning on my audio system.

Oops. I almost forgot... Perhaps you can answer this last question for me...

I've read practically all the threads here pertaining to speakers (esp. front/side door speakers). I have also visited and reviewed MacGyver's site as recommended by this forum regarding speaker installation, size requirement, etc.

I went to various car audio specialists here in the Los Angeles area and was told repeatedly that they there is a modification that will need to make with any speaker in this location. Due to depth limitations, you will need to cut out the back of the plastic factory mounting bracket to provide enough space to install these speakers. Is this really true for all speakers?

I honestly don't want any cutting done Are they speakers out there that you guys know of and can recommend (besides the stock speakers, of course) that will fit in S2K without cutting anything? In the meantime, I'll continue to search the web and send my usual e-mails to manufacturers who are useless than t!ts on a bull

I'll forever be GRATEFUL for your INPUT.

I have a Boston GT-40 (4x55 RMS) mounted above the gas tank, and
others have JL 300/4's there too. Doesn't take up any trunk space,
and you can keep your spare. The new Alpine PDX amps are small
and powerful and MIGHT fit under a seat, but above your price range.
As for speakers, I believe there are some Polks which don't require
cutting the plastic basket, though I don't speak from experience. I can
say that cutting the basket is trivial, and when you see what I'm talking
about, you'll realize you're not hacking your new car to bits. see:

oops, just realized you've visited MacGyver's site, so you've probably
already seen the picture of a cut speaker basket.

Well Unless you make a bracket out of wood (witch I did) you will have to cut the basket. This is the basket that holds the stock speaker and if you ever want to go back stock you can switch them out without any problem(4 unscrews and 4 rescrewes). A ton of people cut it out on here so it's no big deal.

sorry for the info already covered. I didn't read far enough down.

I just bought the alpine pdx and was thinking of installing it under the seat. Once it arrives, I'll check it for size. Would there be any problem with cooling?

The PDX's look nice... would be interested in hearing if they fit under the seats... or possibly behind the seats.
