Update: My weird amp problem fixed
New amp came in today (Alpine MRV-T420) and my speakers now work again! Surprisingly enough, they sound better than the Soundstream did while it was working too!
an undistorted 60 watts 0%thd RMS from one amp is exactly the same as an undistorted 60 watts 0%thd RMS from another amp.
A watt is a watt.
PRE amps now that a diffent story, and tubes well then the rabbit hole gets very deep..

So then if I go pick up a $20 2x 60 watt Road Gear amp at Walmart you saying that it will work just as well as an Alpine or Soundstream? I doubt it.
I'm sorry but I totally disagree with you. They use junk parts to make that amp that's way it only costs you $20 bucks not $200.

When you purchase a product you are committing yourself into a relationship with that manufacturer; you are going to use the product on a regular basis. If anything breaks, you are going to contact that manufacturer for a refund or exchange. This is where the better companies shine. Their products are constructed in such a manner that there are few exchanges, and if need be, they will certainly take the said product back. The good companies stand behind their products.
As far as SQ is concerned, all of the tests that i have read were done with new equipment with the gains adjusted so there would be matching output. They did everything they could to equalize the amps so the better ones were inhibited from shining.
There is no testing of the longevity of the equipment. Sure the cheap amp may sound fine now, but wait a month or a year or two and then see. If you buy a quality amp, it is an amp for life. Much of my equipment at my home is over ten years old and it blows away (as far as craftsmanship & design) anything you can find at best buy. And it still works, and I bet my children will love the way it sounds.
Or you can buy an Aiwa, and use it for a year. have it break
Buy another Aiwa. wait a year. have it break
IMHO it is better to find quality product that is used or disco'd and make an initial investment that will pay off in the years to come.

2 more pennies.

you just keep telling yourself that..
